Be sure to get your seasonal flu vaccine every year and any vaccines with different flu strains - for example, the H1N1 flu vaccine.

to know what to do to protect yourself and stop the spread
of the flu!
a. The most important thing you can do to
prevent catching the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated.
If other flu strains, like the H1N1 flu are prevalent, you
will need to get a separate vaccination for this particular
strain.
b. Avoid close contact with people who are
sick or when you, yourself are sick with the flu.
c. If possible, stay home from work, school,
and errands when you are sick.
d. Cover
your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
e. Washing your hands often will help protect
you from germs.
f. Germs are often spread when a person touches
something that is contaminated with germs and then touches
his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
g. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active,
manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious
food.

**Yellowstone County Email Spoofing Warning**
|
Email spoofing is the creation of email messages with a forged sender address. Because the core email protocols do not have any mechanism for authentication, it is common for spam and phishing emails to use such spoofing to mislead or even prank the recipient about the origin of the message.
It has been brought to our attention that erroneous emails being sent from an outside party posing to be a Yellowstone County Employee or Official. These emails may appear to be from Yellowstone County and could ask you to log onto a secure server to view an email message. Please refrain from opening these emails if you have not recently had an inquiry that would warrant an email being sent to your address.
What to do if you receive and email from a Yellowstone County Email and suspect it may be spoofed:
- Never provide personal information through email;
- Call the department with the phone number found here that sent you the email to verify that the email you got was sent by them. Never use the phone number supplied in the email itself;
- If it is clear the email is fake delete it immediately and empty it from your recycle / trash bin.

**District Court Telephone Scam Warning**
|
The Yellowstone County District Court recently received information regarding a scam to steal your money and/or personal information.
(1)The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by phone claiming that they have now been formally served and must contact Yellowstone County at a given number to avoid further action.
If you receive a call consistent with the descriptions above, please do the following:
- Do not provide personal information over the telephone;
- Hang up and contact the police to report the incident;
- Contact the Yellowstone County District Court to report the incident.
District Court would only contact an individual by phone if they've been selected for jury duty and notified by mail, and did not respond as directed in the letter. Additionally, at the current time, District Court is compiling the new jury pool for 2023-2024, and if we receive a jury questionnaire back and have questions, that potential juror may be contacted by phone for further clarification. District Court would in no circumstances notify someone of either civil or criminal proceedings against them by phone.

**Justice Court Telephone Scam Warning**
|
The Yellowstone County Justice Court recently received information of a scam to steal your money and/or personal information.
(1)The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by phone saying that there is a civil judgment against them filed in Justice Court. The suspect states that that if they give him/her payment of the judgment by credit/debit cards they will not proceed with the action. The suspect asks for personal information and requires the person to make the payment over the telephone.
(2) The Court has received calls from individuals saying that they have been contacted by a collection agency saying that they owed money to the Justice Court and if they did not pay the collection agency immediately there would be a warrant issued for them.
If you receive a call consistent with the descriptions above, please do the following:
- Do not provide personal information over the telephone;
- Hang up and contact the police to report the incident;
- Contact the Yellowstone County Justice Court to report the incident.
Justice Court personnel never initiate contact by telephone or email seeking personal information. If you have a concern regarding a matter in the Yellowstone County Justice Court clerks are available to answers questions by telephone, email or in person.

**Jury Service Phone/Email Scam Warning**
|
Identity thieves have contacted Yellowstone County residents and threatened them for failing to report for jury service. The thieves are seeking confidential information. The local courts and Jury Assembly Room staff will NEVER call you or e-mail you and ask for Social Security Numbers, credit card numbers or other sensitive information. Do not give out such information to anyone claiming to be with the judicial system who calls or e-mails you.
If a person did give out his/her Social Security Number, please call the Social Security Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271 and all three credit bureaus.

**Deed Scam Warning**
|
Recently several property owners within Yellowstone County have received an invoice/letter from an out of state entity requesting a fee for a copy of their deeds and other real estate related documents. The fees are significant and any property owner should show caution when an unknown entity solicits property records. You can receive a copy of your deed and other real estate related documents at the County Clerk and Recorder’s office. The cost to receive copies is $.50 for the first page and $.25 cents for additional pages of the document. Please call our office with any concern or questions.

November 2024 General Election Information

Absentee ballots will be mailed to voters on the absentee list on October 11, 2024. Please give the USPS a week to deliver your ballot before requesting a replacement ballot. If you are unsure if you are an absentee voter or a polling place voter, you may check your voter status at voterportal.mt.gov
Voter Information Pamphlets are available online at https://sosmt.gov/elections/vip/ .
Voters may view the status of their registration, the status of any absentee ballots if they are an absentee voter, the location of their polling place if they are a polling place voter, and sample ballots at voterportal.mt.gov
Voters may drop off ballots at the Yellowstone County Courthouse during regular business hours, excluding weekends and holidays. On Election Day (only), voters may drop off absentee ballots at any Yellowstone County polling place. Polling place voters must appear at their polling place and polling places have changed as a result of redistricting. Polling place voters should confirm the location of their polling place at voterportal.mt.gov

Montana Purple Heart Memorial – Online Name Locator

We are pleased to announce the release of our online name locator for the Montana Purple Heart Memorial. The Memorial can be found in the courtyard of the Yellowstone County Courthouse located at 217 North 27th Street in Billings, Montana.
You will now be able to quickly locate the names of our combat wounded Montana veterans on the walls of the memorial. Once you search for a name you can also view a picture of each panel that is associated with the veteran searched. If you know of a Purple Heart Recipient whose name belongs on the Memorial, please submit them here.
