The Yellowstone County Auditor's Office independently serves the citizens of Yellowstone County by promoting accountability, fiscal integrity and openness in county government. We monitor and review the operations of the County to assure compliance with reasonable standards, including state, local, federal laws and adopted county policy. We strive to ensure the proper use of public resources by working with local government and it's citizens.

Overview

 

The Yellowstone County Auditor, as an elected official, provides an independent appraisal function through internal auditing to assess whether the County has met its responsibilities in complying with laws, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, and agreements. The County Auditor's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

The County Auditor shall investigate and examine all claims against Yellowstone County for compliance with County policies, state and Federal laws and generally accepted accounting principles and report findings to the Board of County Commissioners. The County Auditor must maintain a complete record of all such claims and investigations.

The County Auditor has the statutory duty to examine the books and accounts of various Yellowstone County departments at least quarterly and report findings of the examinations to the Board of County Commissioners.

The County Auditor is required to perform such other duties as directed by the County Commissioners.
