YELLOWSTONE COUNTY ELECTION OFFICE URGES VOTERS TO CORRECT SCHOOL BALLOT ENVELOPES BEFORE DEADLINE
4.38% Rejection Rate Driven by Missing Birth Year on Signature Envelopes; 960 Voters Contacted
BILLINGS, Mont. - The Yellowstone County Election Office reports a 4.38% rejection rate on returned 2026 school ballots. More than 95% of rejections share one cause: voters did not write their birth year on the signature envelope. Montana law requires both a signature and birth year for a ballot to be counted.
The Election Office has mailed notices to all 960 affected voters and is following up by phone and/or email to help voters complete the correction process before the deadline.
Affected voters should watch for a letter or call from the Election Office, or contact us directly:
Phone: (406) 256-2740
In person: 217 N. 27th Street, Room 109, Billings, MT 59101
"Every vote matters. We are mailing notices and calling voters directly to make sure every ballot has a chance to be counted. Please check your mail, email, and answer your phone."
