The Yellowstone County Justice Court is divided into three divisions: the criminal division, the civil division and the small claims division.

How-ToFind Next Court Date

The steps below will show how to find your next court date using the Montana Courts Public Access Portal.


  1. Go to courts.mt.gov.
  2. Click on "View details" under Public Access Portal(s).

  3. For Yellowstone County District Court (Felony Cases), click on the link under District Courts Public Access Portal.

    For Yellowstone County Justice Court, Billings Municipal Court, and/or Laurel City Court (Misdemeanor Cases), click on the link under Limited Jurisdiction Courts Public Acces Portal.

  4. At the bottom of the the page, under COURT, select the proper court from the drop-down menu.

  5. At the top, click on SEARCHES Case Searches By Party.

  6. Enter your Last name and First name, then click "SEARCH".

  7. Find your NAME and CASE, then click on the case number.

  8. Click on Hearings on the left side of the screen.

  9. These are your scheduled hearings in the selected court/case ONLY. The next hearing that you need to be present for will be the one in the list that has no result listed (for example, no "Hearing Held" or "Vacated"). The START DATE will be in the future.
