The Montana Purple Heart Memorial in Billings honors over 5,000 Montanans wounded or killed in action. Located at the Yellowstone County Courthouse, it stands as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice.

On August 7, 1782, Continental Army Commander-in-Chief George Washington said this of his troops when establishing the Badge of Military Merit;

Let it be known that he who wears the military order of the purple heart has given of his blood in the defense of his homeland and shall forever be revered by his fellow countrymen.
